Atlas Antibodies celebrates two decades as the original manufacturer of the antibodies used to map the human proteome in the Human Protein Atlas (HPA). Since 2006, the company has provided these validated antibodies to researchers globally, supporting thousands of scientific publications. The company was established in 2006 by researchers from the HPA project with a straightforward mission: make the same high-quality antibodies available to the broader research community that were used to map protein expression across human tissues and cells. The founding team’s direct involvement in the Human Protein Atlas project ensured that the antibodies met the project’s rigorous standards for specificity and reliability from the outset.
Atlas Antibodies offers three main product lines. Triple-A Polyclonals™ are antibodies derived directly from the HPA project. PrecisA Monoclonals™ consists of mouse monoclonal antibodies developed in-house since 2012. PrEST Antigens, available since 2014, are recombinant protein fragments. The company also provides AtlasPlex™, a multiplex immunohistochemistry kit for FFPE tissue, and MolBoolean™, an in situ assay that simultaneously measures free and bound proteins.
The catalog currently contains more than 22,000 Triple-A Polyclonals™ and PrecisA Monoclonals™. Each antibody begins with a PrEST antigen, a recombinant protein fragment of 50 to 150 amino acids selected for minimal sequence overlap with other human proteins. This careful selection minimizes cross-reactivity, ensuring that antibodies target specific proteins with high precision.
Validation is rigorous. Every antibody undergoes selectivity screening on a protein array of 364 human recombinant fragments. This extensive testing identifies potential cross-reactive proteins, ensuring specificity. Tissue validation follows, testing each antibody via immunohistochemistry on over 40 normal and cancer tissues. Where applicable, additional testing occurs in western blot and immunofluorescence to confirm performance across diverse experimental conditions.
Each product carries an HPA identifier, allowing users to review tissue, cell, and blot data at proteinatlas.org before purchase. This transparency empowers researchers to make informed decisions based on full validation data.
The core objective established in 2006 remains unchanged: deliver the right protein in the right tissue with total confidence.
